Riviera West Fire Emergency Siren

The new fire emergency siren is installed at the top of Broadview Drive. Routine siren testing takes place at 11 AM on the first Monday of every month.

Stay informed! In a real emergency, after the siren sounds information will be provided by authorities on LakeCoAlerts. CLICK HERE to sign up. Remember: Riviera West is Zone KEL E-122

For Your Safety:

The pier at the Riviera West Marina that serves the docks will be closed for repairs until further notice. Thank you for your cooperation.

When to Evacuate? Immediately.

Both Riviera West Drive and Soda Bay Road can quickly become blocked during a wildfire. Avoid the stress and danger! At the first sign of a threatening fire, leave immediately. You don’t have to wait for an evacuation roworder. Early evacuation leaves roadways clear for fire crews and law enforcement. You will face less traffic and have a better chance of finding lodging if necessary. And you can always come back if the situation improves.

Take CalFire's Advice:

“Leave as soon as evacuation is recommended by fire officials to avoid being caught in fire, smoke or road congestion. Don’t wait to be ordered by authorities to leave. Evacuating the fire area early also helps firefighters keep roads clear of congestion, and lets them move more freely to do their job. In an intense wildfire, they will not have time to knock on every door. If you are advised to leave, don’t hesitate! You must take the initiative to stay informed and secure! Listen to all forms of media for further announcements from authorities.”

Home Crime Prevention Tips

-  Keep your garage closed and your vehicles locked, and do not leave possessions visible in vehicles. Use a locking gas cap.

-  Windows and doors should be locked; don’t leave a window partially open for an outside extension cord.

-  Do not leave mail in the mailbox for pick-up any more than necessary, and collect your mail as soon as possible after it’s delivered. Mailbox thefts have happened in the Rivieras and Buckingham area.

-  Keep your travel plans and expensive gift purchases off social media.

-  When shopping online, use strong passwords and change them often.

-  In parking lots, be aware of your surroundings especially at night. CLICK HERE for some excellent safety advice from Consumer Reports.

-  Keep a photo or video log of valuable possessions and record all serial numbers.

Get Riviera West Approval BEFORE You Begin Your Project

Do you want to make a change to your property? A new deck design or perhaps a new exterior paint job?

Before you start buying materials, hiring a contractor and picking out colors, please take the time to check with the Architectural Control and Planning Committee (ACP) at the Riviera West office. Inadvertently violating an ACP guideline could result in a warning letter, monetary fine or other consequences. Even if work you do complies with Riviera West guidelines, failing to get approval in advance is itself a violation.

The best advice is to check with the ACP every time, before you start a project. The ACP committee members are neighbors and volunteers, and they are eager to help you. Thank you to all property owners for working with the ACP to help keep Riviera West a safe and attractive community!

Click Here for more information about the ACP approval process.

A Few Housekeeping Items for Fall and Winter

If the weather forecast is to be trusted, we’re in for a wet winter. It’s a good time to take proactive steps to keep our properties safe and well-maintained.

  • Is your slope protected from erosion damage? Repairing water runoff damage can be costly, especially if the runoff goes past your lot and onto a neighbor’s. Check with local home improvement stores for erosion control resources, including landscape plants that can hold a slope while not promoting the spread of fire.
  • Check your roof gutters for pine needles or other burnable material.
  • Trim branches well away from your roof, both to prevent direct damage and to discourage squirrels and rats from gaining access.
  • Keep steep walkways and driveways clear of acorns, pebbles and other debris that can cause you to slip in wet weather.
  • Unclog air ducts and inspect your air intake filters so your heating system can work more efficiently.
  • Store firewood outside and at least three feet away from your house to prevent wood-boring insects from getting in.
  • Protect your pipes from freezing by purchasing foam pipe wrap at the home improvement store. To protect the foam long-term, you can wrap it with 20 mil black pipe tape. A small amount of winter prep can save you from a large plumbing repair bill during a freeze period.

Be Prepared to Evacuate

If the Sheriff's Office issues an advisory evacuation for Riviera West, it's a good idea to leave even if it is not mandatory. It is easier to evacuate early when there is less traffic, and emergency vehicles can get through to protect our homes if we have already left. We recommend evacuating whenever you feel unsafe or worried about a nearby fire, whether or not an evacuation message is issued.

Keep your cell phone charged and your gas tank full. Be sure you can get your car out of the garage if the power is out. Have your valuables packed and have animal carriers ready to go.

Consult the Sheriff's Office website regularly if a fire is nearby, and pay close attention to Nixle email alerts.

Security Alert: Mailbox Thefts in the Area!

Mailbox thefts have once again been reported in a neighboring community. Sadly, it is a recurring problem. Don't leave mail to be picked up until just before the mailperson comes. Better yet, use a mailbox in town to drop off your mail. And be sure to pick up mail from your mailbox immediately after it is dropped off.

Our safety depends on you!

All Riviera West streets are 25 mph. Please consider the safety of the people, pets and wildlife in our community. Slowing down will keep you and everyone else safe. Thank you!

Sorry, Pooch!  Pets are not permitted in the Riviera West clubhouse or at the swimming pool. Thank you to all pups and their thoughtful owners!

Please Conserve Water

With California's drought history, Harbor View Mutual Water customers should always voluntarily practice water conservation. Here are some things you can do:

-   Adjust sprinkler heads and fix any leaks.

-   Install drip irrigation system with a smart controller.

-   Water plants early in the morning or late in the evening

-   Use inorganic mulch such as decomposed granite, gravel, or rock around plants.

-   Wash your car with a hose equipped with a shut-off. nozzle.  Don’t let water run down your driveway. Or if available, take it through the car wash when you fill up your gas tank.

Let's Keep These Dangerous Mussels Out of Clear Lake!

Invasive mussels significantly alter lake ecology by destroying native habitats. They block water delivery, disrupt recreational and commercial fishing, undermine docks, and that's just the beginning. With a few simple steps, we can keep them out of our lake, AND avoid a fine.
